How to Create a Custom WordPress Home Page Template

www.mlwebco.com – In this video I demonstrate how to create a wordpress page template and use a static html page as your wordpress home page. This is useful if you want to use a custom static html wordpress home page and display your blog posts on a seperate page other than the home (index) page. • Hi there

I have managed to get the homepage.php into the theme but I don’t understand where to put the CSS that I created. It is not styled.

    Can anyone help?

  • That’s a great information thanks mlwebco. But could you do a tutorial on how to get maybe the most recent 3 or 4 posts – or most popular posts, to show up on the custom static homepage. I’m a WP noob. That would really seal the deal thanks.

  • How do I create a custom post page? Not a custom home page. What I want to do is have the header and footer included in the page but not the sidebar and I want the page layout to be 100% of the screen.

  • I apologize if this is asked and answered but does this technique work with the most current release wordpress 3.1. Thanks. Keep up the excellent work.

  • @mlwebco did you use image html code for the images maybe that will work I did that and that seemed to work for me on the images.

  • I have a question can you use html coding and make that the home page like you can in notepad but instead doing on your wp-admin and can you create custom pages that way?

  • Hi, i did everything just like you said but when i go to the Template option all i get is “Default Template” or “One Column, No Sidebar”? How can i get my “Home Page” template that i put into the Themes folder to show up?
    Thanks

  • @andrecalvoandre You would have to update the page manually via HTML like using Dreamweaver or any text editor. No CMS unfortunately.

  • @mlwebco Great video! But I can’t get graphics to display either, thought I did something wrong, like Hanausa16. Can I get a copy of the code?
