Verify Your WordPress Website in Google Webmaster Tools – Video

goo.gl – There are two ways to verify your WordPress Website in Google Webmaster Tools – 1) File Upload and 2) Meta Tag. I’ll show you how to do both in this video. Once your site is verified in Webmaster Tools you can submit an XML Sitemap, find crawl errors, duplicate content issues, and host of other diagnostics to make sure Google can crawl your WordPress Website effectively. Note: Now you can even verify your site with Google Webmaster tools using Google Analytics!

  • Thank you so much!!! Finally… Basically Iwas trying even with a widget to help me paste the code and still spent nearly 45mins with no joy. Your tutorial is only 3mins long and thats how long it took me to paste the verifying code…thanks again.

  • hi my friend liked your video i am new here to you tube i followed your video and at the end i had no data available ion my dashboard

  • @moonstruckize Are you using WordPress com? That may be the reason you can’t edit your theme. This tutorial will only work with self-hosted WordPress blogs. Sorry!

  • @Msdomainer11 – if you just verified it, it will take some time for Google to crawl your site and for data to show up in your dashboard. It could take several days…

  • Great Video – inserted meta tag in header in W/P blog and updated . went back to verify … verification could not be found . Is there a waiting period involved .
    Thanks

  • @eilval – there should not be any waiting period for the verification process. Can you view source on your web page and make sure the meta tag is showing up there?

  • I HAVE A PROBLEM I DID WHAT YOU SAID BY ADDING THE LINK TO THE HTML I CLICKED UPDATE WENT TO MY WEBSITE AND VIEW SOURCE AND ITS NOT THERE. MY WEBSITE. W,W,W.JOEMURTAGH.C,O,M

  • Don,
Thank you for this video. This is exactly what I was searching for. You made it seem so simple. I’ve seem other videos talk about the html code in the header but they don’t tell you where it’s located. Thank you for clearing that up and going through in detail. Really helped me a lot.

  • i cannot log into my website to input the code, i keep being re-directed to the error message of “your website is suspicuos of malware” . with the download option, where do i upload it exactly in my host?

  • Hi Don, I followed your instructions with inserting the meta tag. It appears in my source code. The problem is no data seems to linking to the webmaster tools, any ideas??
    Many Thanks

  • Good video. but wordpress and google webmaster central have changed. They give you a simple code but neither site explains how to insert it. WordPress says you have to add a meta tag but I’ve tried that in every variation imaginable. It just doesn’t work. Can you update this video?

  • @padgo98 Sometimes you have to give it a few minutes. You should also verify that it is in the head section of your website source code.

  • @MrMotihips Both the meta tag and file methods for verifying still work in Google Webmaster tools. They have added a new method though – if you have Google Analytics installed on your site, then you can use THAT to verify without having to add anything additional. I’ve added this to my blog post which is linked to in the description of this video…
